Problems with IRC

Gday all, im a newbie to this list, so please bear with me.
Ive been trawling through the internet looking for references on how to
get DCC sends going through a NAT. I see that there are some references
to a connection track modules for irc, at least in earlier releases, but
with the current kernel im using (2.4.10) it doesnt seem to be included.

What is the purpose for the helper module. I didnt think it was a
complex protocol. After all, all you *should* need is to accept
connections for DCC clients on a predefined series of ports, and DNAT
them to my box? Ive tried that, and as far as i can tell, the packets
get "eaten" in the DNAT process and never reach the destination.

In short, how do i make it work, and could you give me somewhere where i
can get some background on why its such a slut of a protocol to use with
netfilter? Ive skimmed through the DCC RFC, and im at a loss.

thanks

Peter
