I guess most hardware-based firewalls are not very flexible. Using a linux
firewall is easy and performance can be improved by easily upgrading the
hardware or customizing the kernel. In fact, you could include a wide range of
networking tools to improve the security of the system. look at checkpoint, it
is also software-based. :)

Subject: netfilter vs. hardware-based firewalls
Oh great netfilter list-gurus -
My boss is considering hardware-based firewall solutions - Can anyone give
me some ammo to throw back as to why Netfilter would be better (I Have spent
considerable amount of time testing/using netfilter, so I am trying to
convince her to go this route... - she is not a techie so anything plain and
simple works best (I know nothing about hardware firewalls - just
linux/netfilter/ipchains...!)
Thank you
jamie
