For the Win2k box I would suggest you use the free firewall Zonealarm from
www.zonelabs.com - the personal version is free. 

Whenever an app trys to connect / send packets it asks you if it should be
allow. You still need to make sure that the zombie isn't called something
like "Windows special internet services" and so on, but it's still a great
help.  I think a netfilter firewall plus zonealarm gives pretty good
coverage!
