Trouble installing netfilter/iptables (long)

I would agree with this - download the latest kernel and then make sure you
turn on Netfilter support and add all the Netfilter modules (I compiled all
these in (i have 2.4.5), but they work just find as loadable ones). Then try
a compile without any patches applied. Compile iptables 1.2.2 for the
userspace binaries and then everything should work. Then backup and start
applying patches!
