Redhat 7.1 loads the ipchains compatibility module per default. Cant give you
any exact ways of how to disable it in redhat init since i hate redhat init
system. Ever seen the movie evolution? It's pretty much the same as redhat's
trying to do with their init system. No way in hell i'll keep up with that;).
It shouldn't be to hard though... Afaik, their /etc/sysconfig system does not
contain any files or parameters so far that you can change ipchains/iptables
back and forth. However, there is an file called iptables in the
/etc/rc.d/init.d/ system... Might be possible if you move the
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S08ipchains symbolic link to /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K08ipchains.
Actually it seems that that's where the ipchains compatibility module is
loaded now that i look at it.(See line 47 in the file).
Of course, you'd need to add your rules to the /etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables
script also. Under the start) section that is.
Ugh, i hate that init system and I've never liked playing around in it.
Fortunately I'm on a redhat 7.1 installation right now...
Anyways, I'm just thinking loud here, try some of the ideas out and see if
you get rid of the modprobing of the ipchains module at boot time.
