hiding the firewall within a traceroute

Hi guys,

I just want to know, if it´s possible to fully hide a firewall within a
traceroute.. A friend of mine told me, there might be a way, by just not
incrementing the TTL-Counter of a gateway packet..

Is this possible within ip-tables?
