Squid Version for Transparent Proxy?

Short question:
The people who reported using Squid in a transparent proxy configuration on
Linux 2.4, what version of Squid are you using?
Long version:
Since the way that getting the original destination IP address has changed
with Linux 2.4, doesn't that mean that any software that was doing
transparent proxying will need to be updated? I've seen the
nf_getsockname() replacement function, but won't that have to be used
before a transparent proxy will work?
I'm trying to run Squid (2.4.DEVEL4) in a transparent proxy configuration
on Linux 2.4. I can redirect the packets, but Squid does not seem to
"recognize" them properly: It only generates "Unable to determine IP
address" and "Error 503: Service Unavailable" errors. I think this is
likely because it cannot get the destination IP address in the way that it
did before. If this is the case, I am willing to attempt to alter Squid to
work properly with Linux 2.4.
Thanks
